The 50th Anniversary Committee is hard at work planning and executing a whole number of events in celebration of Saint Theresa Parish’s Golden Anniversary. Begun in March of 2010, we will conclude with a Gala Celebration on March 6, 2011. Events take place at least monthly until then, and promise something for everyone. Take a look at the list of events below and click on any for further information. We would love to see you at some, if not all that is being planned. Our next planning meeting will be Tuesday September 21st at 7:oo pm at St. Theresa Church.
50TH ANNIVERSARY PARISH FAMILY QUILT
This is a chance for each family to be represented in our Parish’s 50th Anniversary Celebration! Each family who would like to participate, is asked to take a 12½ x 12½ square of plain muslin, (AVAILABLE AFTER ALL MASSES FOR THE NEXT FEW WEEKS!) to decorate in a way that represents their family. The completed squares need to be returned to the Church no later than September 1st so that they can be sewn together and hung on the walls in the Parish Hall by October 1st which is designated as the Feast Day of our patron, St. Theresa.
- “Una Cena Italiana” – an Italian Dinner was held on March 20, 2010.
- Belgian Waffle Breakfast - was held on Sunday, April 25, 2010.
- A Grand Auction – taken outside of our annual Feast, the Auction was held on Sunday, May 16, 2010.
- Father’s Day Malassadas -were served on Sunday, June 20th.
- A Parish Yard Sale was held Saturday and Sunday, July 17 and 18, 2010.
- The Annual Parish Feast was held Friday, July 30th through Sunday, August 1st.
- A Family Picnic at Colt State Park - was held August 28th.
- The 50′s will be remembered for poodle skirts and slicked back hair. And they will be back for a Dinner Dance on September 18, 2010 in the Parish Hall.
- October will boast a Harvest Dinner on Columbus Day weekend, Saturday, October 9th. Featuring Marinated Chicken, made famous at the Feast, and fruits of the season, this dinner is NOT to be missed!
- Fr. Leo Patalinghug, Director of Pastoral Field Education at Mt. St. Mary Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland, will be with us on November 12, 13 and 14, to lead A Parish Mission like you have never participated in before. Known for his “Grace Before Meals” presentation, he links the simple, yet forgotten events in a family’s life with the greater spiritual need for growth experienced by us all. Check out the preview video below!
- The Ocean State Follies will entertain us on December 4th, bringing their unique humor and quirky look at all life “Rho Dilan”! Mark your calendars with this must see!
- A Valentine’s Day Dance will highlight the shortest month of the year on Saturday, February 12, 2011.
- And the year wraps up with a Gala Celebration at White’s on the Watuppa, March 6, 2011. This evening celebration will follow a special Anniversary Mass at the parish, to which our very own Bishop Tobin will be invited to be our Principal Celebrant and Homilist. Plan to be a part of this opportunity to say “Job well done for the first 50!”
These events are not an exhaustive list of all that will take place in the months ahead, as new plans are made at each Committee meeting. Do you have an idea that will appeal to even a section of our parish? Then join us at the next meeting and bring your ideas! We meet next on August 10, 2010, 7pm. in St. Theresa Church Hall.
All plans subject to change.
