yarn basket knitting group

About the project: Knit for Kids is a volunteer effort that connects individuals from all over the world through Guideposts Christian Magazine. The program creates a caring bond between people from many walks of life who send beautifully knit or crocheted sweaters and the thousands of children in need who receive their gifts.

Guideposts has partnered with many leading charitable organizations including to clothe needy children here in America and around the world in places like Romania, Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Kosovo to name a few. The joy that Knit for Kids creates for the children who receive these sweaters is immeasurable, as is the joy experienced by the caring people who knit them.

Due to a wonderful response, our group is expanding to include other needlecrafts and articles. Do you enjoy making afghans or are mittens your specialty? Maybe it's baby booties, winter caps, or scarves that you enjoy creating. Maybe you are interested in learning how to knit or crochet.

It's time to turn in those sweaters! Bring your projects, bring your friends! Supplies and instructions available. Beginners always welcome.

Please Note: Sweaters are to be hand knit using only those instructions supplied by the Knit for Kids organization (links are below). Previously worn sweaters cannot be accepted. Those who do not knit can contribute in other ways. Call Agnes Martins at 624-2207 for ideas. Thank you.

Agnes Martins recently delivered another 101 sweaters knit by parishioners (bringing our total to over 300!) for the Guideposts Magazine Knit for Kids project. Pictured here with Agnes is Tracey Buckley, Knit for Kids program Coordinator. Their goal for this year is 100,000 sweaters, which will make 400,000 for the 10 years the program has been going. Keep those needles clicking, another delivery is planned for spring! On behalf of Guideposts magazine Tracey sends many thanks to all who give so generously of their time and talents.

T C Knitters News
Our wonderful ministry is growing and evolving all the time. We now are joined by the T C Jr. Knitters. Seven youngsters from our parishes learned to knit this summer. They all did a great job and completed a project of I-Pod and Cell Phone covers. Their pictures will be on display soon.

On Thursday September 18, a grand total of 101 sweaters were delivered to Guideposts Magazine in New York. Thank you to all who continue to work on this project. Keep up the good work. The children depend on us.

Prayer shawls are now available at no cost. These shawls are a great comfort to all who receive them. Lap covers will also be available soon to serve both men and women in wheelchairs. These are also prayed over and blessed.

As always anyone doing handcraft of any kind is welcome to join us. There are no dues to pay or rules to follow. The purpose of our meetings is to be together, sharing a prayer, sharing ideas and many times learning a new stitch or a new way of doing something. Most of the work is done in our own home, and some of our ladies are homebound and do not make the meetings. Our shawls hats mittens and Linus Project blankets are enjoyed by people in our own community as well as throughout the state. Most of the sweaters are sent out of the country, but some do stay in the USA. Very soon you may hear of a local distribution of sweaters. Stay tuned.

Watch the calendar in the bulletin for our next meeting and please join us. If you do not knit or crochet and would like to learn we would be more than happy to help you. It is a wonderful worthwhile and satisfying pass-time. For more information call Agnes Martins at 624-2207.
